Born to a single mother, Goro Akechi spent his childhood being picked up due to an older generation's influence and the stigma of being fatherless; his aunt and her husband offered to take his mother and him in until she got onto her feet in Recolle, and since then life has looked up. His aunt introduced him to mystery classics she's collected over the years -- an avid fan herself as a literature teacher -- and he chewed through them eagerly, hesitant to interact with people around his age due to his lack of English skills, obvious accent, and most importantly of all how he'd been burned back in Japan.
Reading through the adventures written by Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Maurice Leblanc, Goro found a love of detectives and the flair they had in figuring things out, the ease at which they gained admiration (including his own!), and -- belated, through the last's works -- a heartfelt love of false-facing thieves. People who could go toe to toe with others and never falter, who could don a mask and become it like they were simply slipping into a new skin. Though since become a thief is illegal, being a Cool Private Investigator would have to do.
Unfortunately, as cool as the job seems on paper, it requires time and experience and the reward isn't great enough to reason it as an actual career unless you get lucky with clients or run your own firm. Despite that, it's still very much something Goro wants to get into; in the meanwhile, he models part-time after being scouted in high school for his pretty looks and natural charm to help his mom at home.
He's a polite, mature young man who's conscious of his image and tries not to indulge himself in things that would tarnish it any due to his work, and though he navigates social situations well he doesn't have very much in the way of actual friends, people he can consider himself close to. Despite that, Goro's sincere in his friendliness towards others and finds comfort in those that he clicks with easily; on the other hand, he tends to feel awkward when presented with emotional situations and doesn't really know how to comfort others. Pat pat? Pat pat.
